The MBA encourages banks throughout the state to participate in the Thumbprint Signature Program.

The Program works like this: Whenever non-account holders of the bank request check cashing services or when someone opens a new account, the bank will use an inkless pad to obtain the person’s thumbprint on the check or on the signature card. If the check is a forged or stolen item, the thumbprint on the check can be used to identify the person who cashed the item.

Whether you are a bank in the metro area or a small community bank, it remains a simple, low cost deterrent to identity theft and check fraud. The program has been very successful and we have received encouraging support from regulators and the local law enforcement. Materials, including the window decals, may be purchased at a discounted rate through the MBA.
