Who Should Participate

New supervisors and managers with less than one year of experience; experienced supervisors with little or no formal supervisor training; curious people who want to know if a supervisor role is for them; aspiring and soon-to-be-promoted supervisors.

Make your attendance count towards your continuing professional education credits! The MBA will provide a certificate of attendance that you may submit to the appropriate advisory board.

 

Session Description and Topics

So you’ve done it! You have excelled as an individual contributor and now it’s time to move into a supervisory role. You are excited about your new role and promise to never make the same mistakes that “terrible” bosses have made with you! You start your new position and are told, “Just ask if you have any questions. Good luck!” Now what? You have great plans for your new role, but you aren’t exactly sure what it is you should be doing or not doing in your new position. Nobody said that managing, supervising or leading would be easy but with the right expectations, tools and skills, you will learn what it takes to be an effective supervisor.

Make your move into your new supervisor position smoother and more successful. Attend this one-day class and gain all the skills and insights you need to lead with confidence and conviction. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to:

  • Define performance, behavior and attendance issues to be addressed
  • Make the transition from team member to supervisor
  • Avoid five supervisory “traps” that turn people off
  • Ask good questions and become a good listener
  • Be accountable and hold others accountable
  • Identify the responsibilities of a supervisor
  • Build a productive team
  • Manage yourself

Presenter

Patrice McGuire is a seasoned human resources and training professional and provides over 25 years of experience in these areas. For the past 16 years Patrice has worked as a trainer, consultant and business partner for many organizations in a variety of industries. Much of Patrice’s work history and experience has been in the banking and financial services industry. She is currently a faculty member for the Graduate School of Banking and has been an instructor for the American Institute of Banking.

This event will be delivered via Zoom. You will receive the webinar link the day prior to the webinar. Please note: Each link is uniquely coded and may only be used by the individual registered for the course. We ask that you do not share the link, and reserve the right to remove unregistered attendees.

Due to this event being highly interactive, we ask that all attendees have access to video and a microphone to have the best experience.

Cancellation Policy

The MBA reserves the right to cancel programs due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or other reasons. Participants wishing to cancel must inform the MBA in writing prior to the event. Send cancellation notices to maryh@minnbankers.com. A cancellation fee of 25% of the program cost will be charged for withdrawing, or you may send a substitute. The full program fee will be charged for withdrawing after the event has taken place or a no-show.
