Job Description

The Commercial Loan Officer is primarily responsible for generating, negotiating, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of commercial loans in compliance with the bank’s lending policies and procedures. The Commercial Loan Officer will also be responsible for the credit decisions, overall credit quality, interest and fee income, and building and maintaining relationships with our business customers. As a team member of bank staff, the Commercial Loan Officer will support other departments and bank functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Primary commercial loan source for recruiting new market business; managing quality, volume, risk, servicing, and reporting.
  • Responsible for generating commercial and consumer loans within guidelines set by bank policy and growth targets; -Ensure interviews with customers are conducted appropriately and that necessary financial information is obtained for efficient application completion and loan processing.
  • Negotiate terms, structure loan financing based on risk considerations, approve loans within credit authority, and present credits for approval to appropriate levels of authority within the bank. Discuss exceptions with authorized staff as necessary to assure quality loans.
  • Responsible for the managing loan portfolio. This includes maintaining a high level of personal customer service, customer retention, credit quality, credit approval, and the probability of the portfolio.
  • Support the bank’s strong relationship banking culture through on-going customer contact, quality customer service, and superior product knowledge; perform customer needs analysis for variety of loan areas.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolio to ensure proper risk ratings and early identification of potential problems.

Education & Experience

Required Education and Experience

Associates degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related field with five to seven years of experience in lending, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, or related field with seven to ten years of experience in lending, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Member of professional career organizations related to banking and commercial lending.
