Job Description

The Entrepreneur Fund (EF) is a leading community & economic development organization with a mission of partnering with small business owners to achieve business growth. EF provides a combination of services, support, and financing for rural, women-owned, and regional entrepreneurs to achieve growth. EF’s service area includes 17 counties encompassing central Minnesota, northeast Minnesota, and northwest Wisconsin.

The Entrepreneur Fund has undergone remarkable growth in service delivery, loan volume, and impact (small business & communities) in the last 5-years. We have a high-functioning leadership team and accounting function. The Entrepreneur Fund has an exemplary Controller and accounting team with impeccably accurate financial statements, clean audits, and a high functioning team that is highly engaged.

As we look to the future, the Entrepreneur Fund has grown large enough in size, complexity, and future ambitions that we are in need of fractional CFO services to build short and long-term capacity aligned with our strategic plan.

The Entrepreneur Fund is seeking fractional (consultant) CFO services to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Optimize the organization's finance and accounting function to meet or exceed operational and strategic objectives. An emphasis is on building capacity and use of more managerial reporting, financial planning and forecasting, and performance management as it relates to the organization's key financial drivers.
  2. Provide CFO services, on an incremental basis and as needed, to meet organizational needs. A list of responsibilities and early priorities are outlined in this document.
  3. Transition the organization into hiring a full-time CFO. The creation and use of managerial reports, financial planning and analysis, and maintaining a strong accounting and compliance function that enables a smooth transition to a full-time CFO.

The Entrepreneur Fund is a non-profit 501c3 organization, founded in 1989, and is certified by the U.S. Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). We finance those who lack access to or qualification for mainstream financing and have a strong entrepreneurial drive. We pair up with our regional talent and support, mentor, and provide capital to meet their needs. EF clients that start new businesses have an 89% success rate after 3 years. That beats the 50% failure rate nationally for that same time period. Our services and lending are tailored to assist small businesses to achieve their goals and grow their capacity as a small business owner.

Since 2013, EF has grown by over a 30% annualized growth rate. In 2020, EF provided services to over 1,600 small businesses and originated more than 500 loans for over $20 million. EF clients grow revenue and jobs at a rate that exceeds their regional peers. As of December 31, 2020, the Entrepreneur Fund has $43.5 million in total assets an $11.7M in net assets.
