Job Overview
BANKWEST, with offices in Rockford, Hanover and Buffalo, is seeking an experienced Mortgage Banker to join the team. the Mortgage Banker will produce high quality residential loans that meet credit quality guidelines. The Mortgage Banker is expected to originate first mortgage loans (ARM’s and secondary market loans) and refer loan and deposit opportunities to other business partners, while providing an excellent customer experience. The Mortgage Banker will prospect by building relationships with centers of influence (realtors, builders, community employers, individuals, and bank employees). The Mortgage Banker is also expected to identify and manage mortgage program relationships which could include third-party mortgage companies, FNMA, and the FHLB. The Mortgage Banker is expected to be active in the community and networking events to develop and maintain referral sources.

Salary
Base: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 (depending upon experience)
Commission: $0.00 - $25,000.00+ annually (depending upon production)

Core Responsibilities (including but are not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain a referral network with clients, real estate agents, builders, developers, and bank employees to generate new business.
  • Achieve annual loan origination objectives. Refer loan and deposit opportunities to business partners.
  • Interview applicants to understand homeownership goals and financial background.
  • Assist clients in completing loan applications and gather necessary documentation including tax returns, pay stubs, and bank statements.
  • Inform customers of approvals or denials.
  • Educate clients on loan products (e.g., FHA, VA, Conventional) and recommend the best fit based on their financial profile and the customer's best interests.
  • Analyze credit scores, income, debts, and assets to assess an applicant's creditworthiness and borrowing capacity.
  • Ensure disclosures are provided per regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all loan files and procedures strictly adhere to federal and state regulations, such as RESPA and HMDA.
  • Collaborate with loan processors and underwriters to resolve issues and ensure loans close in a timely fashion.

Education & Experience

  • 5 years of Mortgage and or loan industry experience
  • Four-year college degree preferred but relevant work experience considered
  • Experience in building or managing a mortgage program
  • Strong sales experience in financial services
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to provide an excellent customer experience
  • Working knowledge of loan origination software and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and handle confidential information
  • Must be highly accurate with keen attention to detail
  • Must possess a professional and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with teammates
  • A current NMLS registration or ability to obtain
  • Remain knowledgeable of government regulations/requirements, real estate and banking laws
  • Maintain a basic knowledge of the legal framework of real estate financing
  • Monitor audit and compliance requirements, address deficiencies as needed
  • Meet the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau qualification requirements
  • Research and provide input on loan policies as needed
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency
  • Comply with BANKWEST policies and standards of confidentiality
  • Be coachable
  • Provide training and mentorship to staff
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and take direction from others
  • Communicate weekly schedule with other team members
  • Ability to clearly communicate thoughts verbally and in writing
  • Other duties as assigned.
